things i would recommend if you are serious about your craft ...

There are lots of books on writing. Most of which I will never recommend. But there are books that help you improve your craft and this is one of them. What if  by Anne Bernays and Pamela Painter. This book should always be within arms length and so worn from use it looks like it is about to fall apart.
